Low Flying Gallery

I now have my photo gallery up and running. This includes photographs and videos of military aircraft which I've shot at some of the low flying areas in Wales and also from Airshows across the UK. Check out the LowFly/Wales page for more information on where these photos are taken and what equipment is necessary for a visit.

Ripmax BF-109E

I started out in Radio Control flying back in 2002. My first model was the Multiplex Twinjet. This probably wasn't the best plane to start off with (it goes out of sight pretty quick) but I managed ok and it wasn't long before the RC bug set in. I stuck with the stock Twinjet for a few months but decided to try her out using brushless power. I was amazed to see the difference in performance and how much flight duration increased using the much more efficient motors.
Over the years I've gained quite a collection of aircraft. I've decided to stick with electric power, its cleaner, much nicer to work on (for me anyway) and its also much quieter. I run all my models using brushless motors and lipo batteries, the days of the old brushed motors and heavy Nicad batteries will soon be a thing of the past. The largest model I have is the P40 Warhawk from Hangar 9. This is about as big as I'd like to go, with its 60" wingspan its a fair old size and will need a hefty motor and 6s lipo to fly.
For information on how to get started in RC flying check out the 'Starting Out In RC' section.

Latest Easystar creations
This is what happens when your a huge Easystar fan.
Here's the Swept Wing Easystar designed by Hypoxic of RCGroups. Run on a brushless setup and 3s lipo, the Swept wing EZ flew fantastic and had a great Lightning jet look to it. Check out the video trailer in my latest videos.

I've recently completed the new Twin Boom P38 style EZ. Built up from three Easystars, I'm running a single Faigao brushless motor with a 4.4:1 gearbox, and a Graupner 13x7 carbon folding prop. I've installed ailerons which will also be used as flaperons, and I've enlarged both rudders.
She has a 74" wingspan and an AUW of just over 1700g. I'm hoping to use this Easystar as my new AP/AV platform, which will hopefully include Panasonics new HDC-SD5 HD camcorder. Check out the latest videos to see her in action.

Latest RC plane...Ripmax BF-109E
Its been a long time coming, but the new BF-109 from Ripmax looks superb. I'm a huge fan of the Spitfire, so I'm hoping the 109 will perform just as well. I'm running an AXI 2820/10 brushless motor, Castle Creations 45Amp speed controller  and a Flightpower 3s 3700 25C lipo. She requires 4 HS-81 type servo's and a 10x7 APCE prop.
The weather in Wales is still wet and windy, so the maiden flight probably won't happen until it improves, so fingers crossed.
I'll post more photos and information soon.

Multiplex Cularis
The Multiplex Cularis is a high performance glider made up from Elapor. It can be built up as a glider, or an electric glider. I'm running mine as an electric glider and using an AXI 2826/10 brushless motor a Graupner 12x7 folding prop and a Flightpower 25C 3s 2500mAh lipo battery. This setup generates around 40Amps so a 45Amp ESC is recommended.
It requires 6 servo's altogether, two for the ailerons, two for the flaps and one for each of the rudder and elevator.

Graupner Extra 300S
Built from an all-wood balsa/plywood construction with laser cut components, the Extra 300s is a lovely ARTF model from Graupner. Powered by Graupner's Compact 350 brushless motor and a 3s 2500mah lipo, the Extra is capable of virtually all aerobatic manoeuvres. Both wings are removable for ease of transport, and the removable canopy allows for easy access to the battery, receiver and ESC. The Extra is currently one of the worlds finest aerobatic aircraft, designed and built by Walter Extra.
